Edward Christopher Sheeran or commonly known as “Ed Sheeran” is an English songwriter, singer and who would have thought, he is also a producer, a rapper and a beatboxer. His first single “The A Team” debuted at number three in the UK Singles chart. His debut album ± has been a certified QUADRUPLE PLATINUM in United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry. This year, he won the BRIT Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough of the Year. Moreover, his single “The A Team” won as the Best Song Musically and Lyrically in the Ivor Novello Award.

Ed Sheeran started learning to play guitar at a very young age. He then started recording in 2005 which led to his first EP, the Orange Room EP. EP (Extended Play) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single (Wikipedia). In 2006, he released a self-titled album and Want Some? in 2007. And for your information, in 2009, he had played almost 312 gigs. On the same year, he again released another EP which is the “You Need Me”.

February 2010, he has posted a video in SB.TV which then led him to the rapper “Example asking Sheeran to tour with him”. On the same year, in April, Sheeran went to Los Angeles and played all over the city and he was spotted by Jamie Foxx of The Foxxhole. Jamie was so impressed by Ed Sheeran’s talent and offered him to use his recording studio. Through the year, he was seen by people over the internet via Youtube and his fans grew larger and larger.

His single, “The A Team” peaked at number 3 in the UK Singles Chart selling over 58,000 copies for the first week. The single was also a top ten hit in some countries such as Luxmeburg, Japan, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway and Germany. His debut album ±which was released last year in September was number one in UK Charts and became the ‘second best selling album and the ninth biggest selling album of 2011 in UK’.

Last November 2011, another soul ballad song was released which is the “Lego House”. “Lego House” reached top ten in New Zealand Single Charts, Scottish, Australia and Irish. In addition, Stooshe also recorded an acoustic cover of this song because of its popularity all over UK. This year, he performed at the closing ceremony of London Olympic Games 2012 with the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”.

His “The A Team” as stated by Louise Willot was inspired by a woman who he met and told him her story. The woman’s name was Angel who is living in a homeless shelter known as “Crisis” in London in which Ed Sheeran was a volunteer.
